South Boston
The South Boston neighborhood is off-the-beaten path, but it doesn’t mean its not full of history! The neighborhood is home to the Dorchester Heights monument, the famous hill from which George Washington and Henry Knox drove the British out of Boston during the American Revolution (the monument in the background of the adjacent photo)!
Today the neighborhood is a popular residential area, especially for those working in the downtown financial district, which is just a short walk or subway ride away. The area is known for fun restaurants and bars, as well as a few truly local neighborhood pubs and deli shops.
The neighborhood is historically famous for a few reasons. Visit Castle Island, a real fort used by the US government during many wars, stroll the same streets as the infamous gangster Whitey Bulger, and finish the day at Dorchester Heights with unbeatable views of downtown Boston!
